The 4 cylinder engine in the Esprit was a Lotus-built engine. They
siamesed it into an 8 cylinder for the 1998 Esprit till 2004. All the
while using the UN-1 Renault transmission in various configurations
and upgraded models. The last incarnation being the UN-1 027. The same
basic transmission we have in the Delorean. And guess what, in the
Esprit V-8 they snap the input shaft at the coupler and knock off the
