[DML] did my new alternator die?!?!?!

Four weeks ago I had my alternator replaced with a new/or rebuilt 
Motorolla one after the original failed. 

Today I'm on my sunday drive, glance down at the gauges and my volts 
needle is pointed downard at the 8. A few minutes later my alternator 
tell tale light comes on. It flickered on/off for 15 minutes. Now its 
on steady and the volts meter is pointed to the 8.

What the #@*#&$*@( is going on? Did my new alternator just die?
