Hi there,

Thanks for following up on this - it would be great to have a 
solution to the drivers side torsion bar shortage. 

If you think about it, it is the most important piece of the car - 
balanced gullwing doors are the key feature of our cars, and no door 
strut is strong enough to replace the function of the torsion bar 
when no more of them can be bought. Also, obviously 1 strong strut 
would not work anyway, as all the force would be on the rear of the 
door, making it twist when opening and closing. So, the only solution 
is to come up with either a repair procedure or a method of 
reproducing them.

Anything else on the DeLorean can be either repaired or replaced with 
something else that would work fairly easily - dashboards can be 
recovered, headlight switches can be remanufactured (still waiting 
for my prepaid one!), frames can be repaired and galvanised, 
stainless panels can be reworked, windshields can (and are being) 
remanufactured, fiberglass can be repaired, etc etc.

The only part of the car that there is no good plan for either repair 
procedures or remanufacture is the torsion bar. Paying 1500 dollars 
for this item in used condition just because it is rare is not a 
solution to the problem in my opinion!

Even though I don't need one myself at the moment, I appreciate the 
effort you are going to with this - good luck with it and I hope it 
works out for you and the rest of us!
