I really tend to agree on this one. I've now seen several cars with
broken input shafts/couplers, and every one has had some other root
cause:
--adaptive bellhousing to Chevy/Buick/brand X engine
--missing pilot bearing
--missing alignment dowels between engine and trans (this ate two of
them!)
--one we're still investigating, but it's a non-DMC engine as well,
although it is a PRV block. I'd still put money on an alignment issue.
I've opened up/refurbed many of the transmissions and the only
difference I've seen between "fresh" ones and 100K+ mile trans is very
slight wear marks on the bearing races. Not bad, just that you can tell
they are used and that the PO probably never changed the oil.
