Your main problem is that you system needs freon every spring, so it has
a leak - you need to put in a UV dye/indicator (included in some Freons)
and use a kit to find the leak(s), or take it to a shop that has a
sniffer. Once the leaks are repaired, then you can worry about
pressures and capacities.

Subject: [DML] A/C pressure readings - interpretation?
Hi Group,
I recently bought an R134a A/C manifold gauge set since I have two cars
with
sketchy air conditioning systems. My DeLorean needs freon every spring
it
seems, so I thought I might learn more about my issues by doing the work
myself instead of taking it in all the time.
Here's the details:
- stock A/C system
- R12 was purged out a few years ago and replaced with R134a and
different
oil
- R134a service ports
I took some readings this evening, and I am hoping someone out there can
tell me what the readings SHOULD be, given my situation.
Ambient temp 65 deg F
Static A/C Test:
Low side - 3.6 bar/ 5.4 Hg (on the outside of the gauge is a scale that
reads "R134A" and the needle was pointing to +14 on that scale - what
does that
mean???)
High side - 6 bar/ 67 Hg +15
Performance Test
Low - 40 Hg +7
High - 122 Hg +36
I guess I should add 36 to 122 etc since the gauge has different scales
for
different refrigerants. Is this a density adjustment or something? The
instructions for the gauge set does not explain this.
If these readings are out of whack, what should I be shooting for, and
how
do I obtain it (I assume I will need to add freon). I am very new to A/C
service.
Thanks for the help!
Andy
