Jason, 
Make sure the shifter is greased real good under the boot, make sure it
isn't hitting the metal trim under the boot that holds it in place, and if
that is ok, what is the condition of the clutch hydraulics. slave, master
and line.

Another question...putting the car into 1st gear requires moving the shifter
around a little.  After a few tries, it goes in.  The rest of the gears, as
well as reverse seem to work fine.  Any ideas as to what it could be?
