It doesn't happen "out of nowhere". It is an insidious process of wear
over a period of time until it starts to display symptoms. If it isn't
too worn you can compensate by playing with the length of the link. It
will add some lost motion to the gas pedal. You will need to lengthen
the link. If you try to remove one of the ends don't forget to remove
the wire clip just like on the door struts but smaller. A drop of oil
or a dab of grease will prevent this. While you are at this make sure
when you step all the way down on the gas pedal the throttle spool
hits the W.O.T. switch. The link works like a turnbuckle so one end is
threaded left-hand and the ends are each locked with a locknut.
