[DML] Radio Reception

I seem to be getting a very poor signal from my rear mounted radio antenna.  
(this is not something new) Has anyone found a solution to this?  Is the 
antenna grounded when its mounted back there? 

Any possibility that all the lubricating sprays I have uaed on the mast could 
be affecting things at RF frequencies?

BTW  I have tried an antenna amplifier and it didn't help at all.
