Your A/C symptoms can be caused by one of the following:
Overcharge and the high limit is shutting you down
Undercharge and the low limit is shutting you down
Moisture in the system and it freezes shutting you down
The cure is pretty much the same for all 3. Have a shop remove the
refrigerent, vacuum out the system, and measure a fill back in. If
very contaminated you should replace the accumulator.
That wire you are reffering to is probably the wire going down the
side of the motor to the low oil pressure sensor. If you ground it (or
the sensor does) it should light the low oil pressure light. The
sensor is located on the left rear of the motor. You can see it from
under the car.
