I built one when troubleshooting mine last year.  It tells you what
the GC is instructing the transmission to do.  This tells you if the
GC is flaking, or the mechanicals inside the transmission are flaking.
 Then you can take whichever steps are appropriate to remedy the
situation.

I don't know about a semi-manual switch like that, but last year there
were several parties working on a new auto trans governor computer...
haven't heard anything new from them though.  :-(
