Payne, The original alternator has a high turn on speed and to generate any
appreciable amount of current to power the lights or fans at idle is almost
impossible.
My up graded alternators have a lower turn on speed and deliver more current
and voltage at lower RPM's. You also need to check and clean the grounds.
This will help on the low voltage and dimming.

Mine moves normally, but it seems to drop quite a bit while using
acessories. At normal idle with no lights on the needs sits above the 13
volt mark. If I have the high beams on with the brake lights it drops
drastically and everything dims. Thanks for the info, I'm probably looking
at getting an upgraded alternator to deal with the load.
