The story I heard was that when hoods were damaged and had to be replaced
at the QAC (Quality Assurance Centers near the ports on both coasts of the
US) that they used whatever hood was available at the time. So if your 3180
got a dent in the hood during shipping it likely would have gotten the
later hood without the gas flap.
