To fix this you first remove the antennae mechanism from the car. Next
you will remove the mast assembly from the power unit. Clean and
relubricate everything. Before reinstalling in the car run it up and
down a few times. If it is still having problems you must adjust the
clutch inside. There is a ratcheting mecahanism that after it "bumps"
3 times it switches off the motor. If the antennae is stiff to move
the clutch will shut the motor off prematurely so everything has to
work freely to function porperly. There is no good written procedure
on this so you need to be a little familiar with the way these things
work. If you can't get it to work right then maybe a local auto radio
shop can help you with it. As long as it goes up and down the nylon
drive cable probably isn't broken but be careful with it because after
20 years it is probably stiff and ready to crack if handled roughly.
If it does break it isn't so bad. You just have to replace the mast
assembly which isn't too expensive.
