Hi Todd,
The company went under basically because the British
government,who pretty much owned the manufacturing
part of the company,pulled the plug on it and refused
to give JZD any more money.A new conservative
government came into power in the early eighties and
were far less likely to keep throwing money at DMC.
Also the timing was bad.There was a recession in the
states in the early 80s so people weren't about to buy
sports cars.
Also the initial build quality of the cars was
poor,resulting in bad publicity for the car.They were
also quite expensive compared to other sports cars of
the time.
But I too often wonder what the car would be like
today if they still made them. When I see a new
Porsche drive past me and I think a "new" DeLorean
would be comparable to it in terms of performance and
comfort.
