You loosen the same adjustment nut as you do for raising/lowering the
steering column. While it is loose, you can also pull it forward or
backwards.

I learned about that the first day I owned my car. I had to travel across
the state to pick it up and spend the night in a hotel, so that night I read
the owner's manual cover-to-cover.
