***** Moderator's Note *****
We certaintly don't want to hold back anyone who has the energy,
initiative and skills necessary to develop a solution for a problem
area of our cars. However, debating the relative merits of NPN vs.
PNP transitors or the necessity of bypass capacitors for certain
integrated circuits, as fascinating as those subjects can be, are
not of general interest to the DML. It is very easy to create
a new mailing list for a very specific topic and invite list members
who are interested in the subject to join. Once the solution is
complete or there is significant progress to report, we will be happy
to moderate that through to the list.

Some of us are technical, and some are not. But part of the value in the list
comes from each being allowed to rise to thier own capabilities. If it's too
technical for you then hit delete and move on, but don't hold the rest of us
back. We'll all benefit from an open design that has passed the scrutiny of
those that know. I know that the vendors would like to be the primary
supplier of all our needs, but although we do need them, we also need to rely
on ourselves in many areas. It seems that in many instances we're each
reinventing the wheel so to speak. We'll all benefit by working together.
We're a talented bunch, and if we communicate, and share we'll be able to
solve a great many of our upgrade/fix issues more quickly and economically,
and have a greater understanding of whats actually going on.
I know that sometimes, someone with a good idea will be approached to team up
with a vendor, rather than just giving it away to the list in an open
fashion. None of us is going to get rich doing either. Although sometimes the
scope of a fix is benefited greatly by vendor involvement. But sometimes good
information and options are held back by proposed alliances that never really
materialize, and they just tend to slow everyones overall progress and
benefit.
I think I've learned that the best thing to do is just give it away to the
list. I've benefited greatly in the past because of this and intend to post
everything I've learned and done (with EFI for example) whenever possible.
I've got some catching up to do in this area.
Soon I hope.....
