Voltage Drop and Clicking Sound

On John Hervey's suggestion I pulled the instrument panel and replaced my 
battery instrument light. This caused the charging to indicte positive on 
the ammeter. The light now comes on when I turn the ignition and goes out 
properly. Before I was not getting a charge because the light was 
defective. Now, I am having the same symptoms and am hearing a clicking 
sound from the front area and the ammeter is showing voltage drops.

What is going on now? Any help greatly appreciated...especially from John 
Hervey.
