What I don't understand about the Central Door Locking

Hi,

I pretty much follow the logic behind the central door locking mechanism
of the DeLorean. Together with the parts and workshop manual it's easy
to understand if you have a bit of technical background.

However, the thing I don't understand is the need for a 'lock position
sensor' that disables the whole mechanism when the locks are 'out of
sync'. In other words, why is it so bad when the locks become out of
sync for whatever accidental reason?
