upper roof seal replacement

Hi all,

I'm thinking of replacing both upper door/roof seals. I've seen a 
post or two in the archives about this, but I was hoping someone 
could give me a few more pointers than what was said. I know that 
going to far with the drill will end in disaster, but other than that 
what do you suggest? What tools are best to use? Are those rivets 
Stainless Steel (should I get them from DMC Houston)?

Also, exactly how important are they? I assume they can't totally 
prevent water from entering the torsion bar area, so is it ok to get 
lots of water in there? Mine are pretty much gone, so I'm avoiding 
any water for now.
