Door alignment

Some time back there was an exchange about the need for the Stainless Steel 
Door Guides and that some of the earlier cars did not came with them 
installed. I can't find the reference, so here goes:

My car, VIN 1074, does not have the guides.
My doors align and open and close quite well.
Should I still install the guides?

(There is a set on e-bay, but Ian is the high bidder at this time and I don't 
want to mess him up if he need the guides and I don't!)
