Adjusting the valves should be considered as a "last resort fix". If the
problem is other than misadjusted valves, which it more than likely is,
adjusting the valves will significantly complicate the troubleshooting
process. Ninety nine percent of poor engine performance in the De Lorean PRV
is related to fuel and or ignition problems.
Your other suggestions are very accurate.
