Tarnished Dash

Ever since I have owned my Delorean I have tried to battle this problem.
My dash has a dirty/dark brown/black look to the gray. The stain seems to be
gradually
Darker as it gets closer to the windshield!. I have tried several off the
shelf products
with no effect. I have never tried anything too harsh just in-case I cause
"dash-meltdown".
A friend suggested painting it with a vinyl paint.

Is their any cleaner I could try! Or maybe a paint.
Can someone help? Thanks Guys.

PS. As I look at it now, the stain seems to be deeply imbedded into the
dash.
Almost like the previous owner was a long time heavy smoker.
