In response to this and the other '83-ism, my 1983 Canadian D (vin 17106)
had the following characteristics that I didn't think were part of the
"regular" D and which I know has not been added by myself or the previous
owner (I'm the 2nd owner, he purchased it new)
The interior is grey with black sunvisors, it has the fully metric gauges,
the 'small' exhaust pipes, the trailing arm shield studs are the one piece
strip, not individual, it has a block heater.
And probably one of the odder things, which can in an envelop from DMC
Houston, (which I'm not sure they intended to or it was stuck inside) is the
fuel filler sticker ... in French.
Still discovering things, I'm sure ....

It's generally thought that the Canadian market DeLoreans are the
17000 series VINs. They are generally identified by the presence of a
metric dominant instrument cluster - is anyone aware of any other
significant differences?
