Mike, 
Maby they took the wires out. The purple wire from fuse #12 goes into the 
light box and the purple / white goes to the switch, it normally open and 
when the lid is raised it shorts the switch to ground to luminate. The light 
is in series with the voltage going to ground. Be sure you have a good 
ground.
