[DML] No problemo!

Someone who reads the DML, and is critical of it, recently told me, "it seems 
like you are having a lot of problems with your car. Every week you're 
asking for help on the DML. Is anybody giving any decent advice?"
Actually, NO, I'm not having a lot of problems. I bought an eighteen year 
old car in pretty much original condition, with 12K miles on it. For a car 
that age, it's in fabulous shape. The previous owner did the fuel tank, brake 
shoes and rotors and some ignition work including accumulator, a/c work, new 
struts, and that's about it. The stainless is in perfect condition. Even the 
speedo, radio and clock work. No electrical gremlins except a faulty mode 
switch and side view mirror switch. Big deal!
Problems? It doesn't stall, doesn't leak in the rain, I've never been locked 
in, brakes never gave out, taillights work fine, water pump is a-ok, 
alternator is adequate, clutch is just fine. I'd call those things problems, 
if I had them going bad on me. I paid $13,000. for the car, figuring I'd 
have to spend $3,000+ for mechanicals (which I already had on hand,) and 
then more for goodies... new seat covers, whatever, when I get around to it. 
I began with brakes. I'm not a mechanic so I paid a lot to get the brake 
lines and master cylinder replaced and system flushed, but I'm satisfied with 
the job. Next was coolant lines. Then I cheated and did the a/c! "Yokos" are 
on the way. Actually, nothing I've replaced so far has been dangereous or 
even serious, for my usual driving, except the brake master cylinder. I'm 
just bringing it up to where I want it to be. 
Actually, YES I'm getting good advice. Sometimes I use the list to ask dumb 
questions, like, how do you set the clock. I'm not going to call a D 
supplier and waste his time, (though I'm sure he wouldn't mind,) on a 
question that anyone who has a D can tell me. Sometimes I ask a question 
online, then later, knowing I'll need parts, I feel free to ask the D 
supplier, knowing I'm actually going to give him a return for his time. And 
now, not being a totally ignorant fool who doesn't know what questions to 
ask. Other times, I ask a mechanical question just so I can set my local 
foreign car specialist on the right track since he's reluctant to use my 
workshop manual. :(
Plus I enjoy the online company of other owners. They say misery loves 
company, well, so does happiness, and I ENJOY my De Lorean!!! Since I got it 
on the road 2 months ago, I've driven it every day, except when I was out of 
town or it was in the shop overnight. Even to the drugstore or Wendy's! If 
it was a garage queen, I wouldn't have needed the DML. But I've learned a 
lot from the list. I'm sure I could learn a lot by buying the complete back 
issues of De Lorean World magazine too, but hey, you can't do everything at 
once. And the DML is FAST! 
One parting shot... if the DML has caused the marque to decrease in value, 
why have D1's fully restored like new D's risen from $30,000 to $50,000 since 
last Fall? Hmmmm?
