[DML] Fuel question

Hello,
heres the problem. I had it idleing in the driveway and all of the 
sudden it just shut off. It would start right back up but would then shut 
right off after 5-10 seconds. It got harder and harder to start until it 
just wouldnt. Its like I am not getting any gas at all now. I have the fuel 
filter off right now but I dont think that is the problem because the fuel in 
it looked fine. 
When I turn the key on shouldnt gas come out where the fuel line hooks 
into the filter? I can hear the pump going but no fuel is coming down the 
line, or is that how its supposed to be? what could my problem be? you can
