My car is similar. Is your VIN close to mine (1280)?

I have found that ANY TIME I try to turn my wipers off they will
immediately go into intermittent mode. At first I though the same thing
you think, that I had a glitch. Then I discovered that I could turn the
wipers off by pushing the wiper control down for one whole sweep of the
wiper and releasing at the very moment the sweep is completed.

Like a video game, this takes practice! I must use very precise, split
second timing. But after years of performing this move I can now
activate/deactivate my DeLorean wipers as easily as any other car.
