Erik,

A cheaper way to go and to replace the trunk cable is to purchase a bicycle 
replacement brake cable set. It cost less then $7.00 with the housing or 
$4.00 for the inner cable. All you really need is the inner cable! The inner 
cable is the same material and you can cut it to length. You can leave the 
original cable housing in place. All you have to do is to snake the inner 
cable into the housing by way of the trunk. Lock the cable down using the 
original screw on the handle in the car's interior, THEN cut the cable to get 
the working length.
