[DML] Engine area (repost)

I sent this out to the old listserv and it probably got lost, so I'll try again:

Does anybody know of a way to polish up the engine area? Not the engine itself, but the area under the quarter panel glass (pontoons?) Mine's a bit scratched up, and I don't want to attempt to repaint this area. I thought about using some sort of polish compound, but the surface looks porus and it seems like it would get embedded.
