I have no idea how the internals of DMCH's year old door struts work
but, if like many struts, there is an internal "brake" that slows
the door near the top of the ascent. If the strut is leaking
internally the "brake" can be the first to go and would be
noticeable most when cold. Have you asked DMCH about it?
