I think a lot of the conflict here boils down to a difference in 'net
culture between people. Psuedonyms, handles, 1337 hacker names,
etc... are perfectly normal and expected by some, the "name yo' momma
gave you" is expected by others. Every net forum I've seen, from
mailing lists, Usenet, web boards, and old BBSes have had a mixture of
people using real identities and "alternative" ones. And it's also
not been much of a surprise to find friends and acquaintences using
*both* or multiple handles. That is simply how the 'net is. Some of
the people who go by handles are shocked when they run into people who
are going by their government recognized name.
As for alleged astroturfing.... that's another matter, but some of us
have seen it so many times in so many venues, it just looks more
clumsy than immoral when it occurs. I view this "scandal" with
curiosity and not much else.
Anyway, Moderators: I thank you for not seeing a single V14G RA
advertisement, for not seeing flamewars overwhelm the rest of the
postings, etc... and that's exactly what I expect from the Mod team.
Good work.
