I'm under the impression that most rubbers used in any parts are
dressed in some sort of powder to prevent deterioration/dry-rot.
Perhaps this can explain why NOS parts are holding up just fine. I
have a tire tube from 1950 that is still like brand new to this
day-and does have powder coated on it- If it didnt have this I doubt
it would have even survived 20-30 years...The powder absorbs moisture?
