Now I would be terrified to park my D in a public place like that 
for months on end while in active duty. And wonder what would happen 
to it if the he should be killed. Will it set there for years?


The sidestripe sounds like an aftermarket stripe he just had added, 
perhaps it was a caddy stripe and he removed the crest because it 
obviously isn't a cadillac. He probably just liked the stripe and 
put it on?

Try checking any local GM garage and seeing if they have the sticker 
in their computer, then you'll reslly know what it is.
