Some people put grease on the shaft before they press it on. That was what I
was referring to. That's why I press them on dry with a 20 ton capacity
press. If the pulley is to be used again I would grove the inside of the
pulley and use a woodruff key.

I think he means grease under the washers for the tool he's using,
not grease on the pump shaft.
