Subject: Re: storage
All fuel should be removed from the tank. It is alright to raise the
car and block it up either by the frame or the suspension just use
good quality jackstands (with rags so you don't scratch the epoxy).
Change the anti-freeze if old or at least test it so the car won't
freeze. Suck out the windshield washer fluid. For longer periods of
storage more steps could be taken like fogging the cylinders, lowering
the tire air pressures and covering the tires, dessicant in the
passenger compartment etc. Keep any animals from getting in the
garage, they can chew up wires, upholstery, carpeting, put acorns into
the exhaust system and the like. Some camphor balls under the car can
help but make sure ALL holes are sealed in the structure so tiny pests
cannot get near the car. Remove everything loose and vacuum and clean
the car inside and out. Taking the car out of storage can be as
important as putting in in. Replace all fluids INCLUDING BRAKE FLUID
AND CLUTCH, turn the motor over by hand, fully charge the battery and
so on. To keep the battery alive during the storage of the car you
should store it in a heated area on a piece of wood and hook it up to
a trickle-charger 1 day a month. I have seen cars stored without any
steps as it was only to be a little while. Months become years and
then it is a real mess. Still the way you reactivate it can be at
least as important as the way it was stored.

Subject: New Guy in town
Hey all,
I'm the new guy in town and I wanted to say hey! I will be
getting my car shipped in about 2 or 3 weeks and wanted to know if
there is an accurate DeLorean owner's directory. I am trying to
track down a specific one that me and my family owned 3-4 years ago
and make it into a reliable everyday car. I am keeping the one I am
buying as a "weekend car" with all original miles and all that. So
if anyone could help me out, I appreciate it!

Subject: Roy Nesseth
I haven't kept up with the mailing list in quite some time, so I'm
sorry if this has already been posted. I've been talking to Roy
Nesseth's daughter lately and thought I'd pass on to the group that
Roy passed away last year. If you don't know who Roy is, check out
any of the DeLorean books or magazine/newspaper articles out there
and you'll see many references to him throughout. He was never
represented favorably, which seems a shame since he seemed like just
a good friend of John, but I just wanted to let those who keep up
with John's past about Roy's passing.

[Moderator Note - when you do this the long ebay ID is usually garbled. It
is much more effective just to put in the item number like 594791521 and
then users can enter this into ebay's search utility]

There is a really cool custom painted DeLorean on eBay, also with custom
wheels. Go here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=59479152

to check it out. I think it is really good looking like that, but he
should
maybe do something to the interior and place headlight covers on it, too.

This car has also been listed on AutoTrader for a couple of months
now. I belive the car is @ a place called SMJ Motors, and the asking
price was around $12K. Nice car, but I just didn't have the $ to buy
it.

I'm acctually sad to hear that. Nesseth always seemed like he was a
good friend of JZD, and his family. Another notable item is that if
not for Nesseth, DMC may not have gotten off the ground. Nesseth was
able to apply the nessisary pressure to the right people, and got the
Dealer Network built for the DMC-12 among other things. While there
are some unfavorable things written about him, I've never heard of
either Nesseth, or JZD being given a chance to explain their side of
the story. Especially since these stories have sometimes come from
people who've had personal conflicts with both the men, and the
company. Overall though, his passing is a loss. Nesseth worked behind
the scenes @ DMC, and may have been able to provide an interesting
insight on the workings of the company. Of course the most notable
thing of all was even after the colapse of DMC, a few articles still
note that Nesseth stuck around. It's too bad the same could not have
been said for JZD's wife, or his high class "friends" (i.e. Maur
Dubin), but i won't go into that here.
I tried searching for Nesseth both online, and thru the public
telephone records @ the library. So now I know why I couldn't find
him. If nothing else, he was someone involved within the DMC project
who never got full credit for helping start/keep the company
together...
If anyone is interested, a while back I uploaded what I believed to
be the only photo I could find of Roy Nesseth from the newspaper
archives at the library. I don't want to bother his daughter or
anything like that, but could it be possibe to get a confirmation on
the photo?

Subject: performance air intake
I have designed a performance part for my Delorean that is a direct bolt
on replacement to the restrictive upper part of the black plastic air
box(between air filter and engine). It will allow the use of a K and N
panel air filter, be made of stainless, and have a clear polycarbonate top
so that you can see the fuel injection trap door working and the condition
of the air filter. This air box can however use a stock air filter,
doesn't require any other modifications, and will only take approximately
5 minutes to install (You can also change back in 5 minutes for
originality sake). It will allow vastly better air flow and show improved
gas mileage and breathing through out the RPM range. I am also doing this
in a tasteful manner so that it is not an eye sore and simply looks like
it should be there. If anyone is interested in such a thing please contact
me so that I can send you pictures when it is complete.
Casey
P.S. I am also designing scoops for the rear like on the turbo prototype
car that I can make out on fiberglass, kevlar, or carbon fibre.

One more note: If you put fuel stabilizer in the tank (with low or no
fuel) make sure you run the engine a few minutes to get the
stabilizer into the Furl plumbing. Just by empting the tank OR
putting stabilizer into the tank without running the car won't
protect the inner fuel system. Any fuel left in the pipes without the
Stabilizer will turn to varnish. If the tank is emptied it is still
recommended to add fuel stabilizer to the tank, run the engine then
empty it. The stabilizer contains an oil that will protect the fuel
system from developing any rust in it.
Also when using Fogging spray (recommended if storing for a long
period of time) make sure you use FOGGING spray. You can get it at
your local Pep Boys, it's in a black can with gold lettering and it's
under the name I believe "Golden Hawk". Fogging spray is very heavy
and when sprayed into the cylinder (through the spark plug holes)
will produce a heavy fog of Oil so that it coats the entire cylinder.
