I don't have a checklist but for "newbies" mayby it would be a good
idea to create one. The best advice I can give you is to meet other
members with Deloreans and see how they are supposed to look and have
your car gone over by someone who knows what they are doing. Now after
this if anything changes you will see something out of place or not as
it was and know there is a problem. Some of the most important areas
to look at are:
Tire pressure and tire condition (Don't forget the spare!).
lug nuts
coolant level and condition
fuel leaks
fuse and relay panel
battery
trailing arm bolts
engine compartment in general
ground under the car after it has cooled off and sat for a while
There is really nothing too unique about the mechanicals or
electricals of the Delorean as opposed to other fuel injected cars
that you may own. Use the owner's manual and just go over the car from
front to back, top to bottom and get familiar with it. If you do it in
the same order everytime you will get to know when something isn't
right.

Marvin, you are absolutely right! It is for that very
reason that on most of my long trips I am accompanied
by my wife. She has informed me, however, that when I
go alone - I go alone.

PS Perhaps this is why she never complains about the
$$$ spent on routine maintenance.

The weight of the frame of my D (with Epoxy-Coating) is 96kg (+-2kg).
The conversion factor between kg and lb is approx. 2.2
(see http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Metrics/factors.htm)
The weight in lbs is therefore 211 lb.
Martys figure of 197 lb is perhaps the frame without Epoxy Coating?

Ralf,
Very interesting. I did basically the same as you, I've got a complete
bare frame which has just finished completely being redone. This frame was
chemically dipped and stripped of all the original epoxy and has now been
powder coated. I guess that means the original frames have about 14 lbs of
epoxy coating on them ???
We've got another frame which currently is sitting in a chemical dip
tank
having it's epoxy removed. I'll try and get a weight on this frame when it
comes out of the tank. It should make for an interesting comparison.
I guess we learn something new about these cars every day.

Subject: Speaker Wiring.
Quick question: Can anyone tell me where/how the wire for the rear
speakers is routed? Long story short: Last year I commisioned to have
rear speakers installed onto the rear pacel shelf wall. Minus the
poor installation that was performed, the shop disconnected my rear
speakers. So now I have sizeable "dead zones" between the seats and
the doors. Before they were disconnected, the rears sounded fine. I'm
just looking to splice into the wires to reconnect the speakers for
now untill I can redesign the back.
Thanks in advance!

Subject: New Key Question?
When I removed my headliners, I discoved what the code was for my
keys (1 key system). How was this code used by the original
dealerships to cut keys, and where can I go today to have new keys
cut using this code? I do plan on getting a set of new key blanks
from one of the vendors, but I would like to start off with a fresh
cut to make the locks work better

Subject: ADMIN NOTE: Virus thing
This will be the last post on the Virus.
We are aware of an email virus that has been repeatedly hitting list
members. This is not coming through the list, we do not pass
attachments and do not moderate through meaningless messages
(usually!).
One of our digest version list-members (mdrig aka yugoman)
is "infected" with this virus. It replicates itself through email if
you are using a Microsoft Email client (thanks Bill). It apparently
replicates itself to the infectees address book AND any addresses
contained in any unread email in his inbox (i.e. the digest). If you EVER
clicked on the attachment, you are now infected too (unless you have a
Mac).
I have written to "mdrig" to explain the problem, AND disabled this
his DML account so that it will stop sending out mails in response to
digests, but I cannot do anything else about it. These are NOT coming
through the list itself.
If you see any mail with an attachment ending in .pif or .exe, just
delete it. Eventually it will stop (I hope).
(Thanks Martin, (DOC-UK)) For more info on the virus, and how to remove
it, see
