RE: [DMCForum] Re: sound deadening...

I was actually surprised how much sound deadening is in the car. I had the
rear panels and carpets out while working on other parts of the car. I left
them out while I was driving on some shake down runs and got used to the
road and engine noise. Since I had done a lot of electrical work, it can
make your heart skip a beat when a rock bounces around in the fiberglass
fender well. It sounds just like an electrical arc.

When I put the rear interior back in the car the sound dropped
significantly. That is what got me on the path to more sound insulation.
Also, the crappy radio can not be listened to at highway speeds. I am
definitely a victim of "while I am in there I might as well replace."

Rude awakening, isn't it? We're roaring up & down the nation's
highways at 80 MPH sitting inches above the pavement in fiberglass
canoes.

Everyone worries themselves to death over plastic radiator channels,
but no one seems concerned that the only thing keeping our asses off
the asphalt is plastic too.

As I drive I like to pat the frame sitting next to me and remind it
that it will at least reach our destination in one piece.
