There is not really much clearance back there.

Personally instead of chopping up that expensive OEM backboard, I'd
just cut a piece of plywood to match, and carpet it the same color,
then install that, and you will have a setup that will look identical
to what you want without destroying any Delorean parts. And you can
then move the piece up a bit further than the OEM piece, giving you
more speaker clearance.
