Well, I can tell you about a car we had in complete with a FanZilla
which once on, would not switch off, and in fact fired the fans up in
the middle of the night for no reason whatsoever.

The "fault" was blamed on the wiring in that particular car, which I
first checked and did do some repair work, but nothing that should have
affected the Zilla. Without taking the FanZilla apart,, I worked out the
problem was a lack of a pull-down resistor on the sense wire.

I don't like the fan fix either FWIW! It is as Rob said - a big relay in
a box. No idea why it should hum though.
