It's amazing, really. I grew up with an operating nuclear power plant
on the other side of town. I work a couple of miles from it, and once
interviewed for a job there. I've toured the half completed reactors
that sit next door to it, as well as some old WWII era reactors that
used to be operational. The reactor that made the fuel for the first
atomic bomb, carefully constructed and operated under the guidance of
some of history's most brilliant scientists - I've toured it.

Nope.

You're right.

Yes and no. Nuclear is still some of the cheapest power we can produce
today. Breeder reactors eliminate much of the hassles. The problem is,
they make their own fuel, and some people in the US have a problem
with that (fears about terrorists, etc).
