That thingy would be the clock that was on earlier cars, which were
removed in 82 due to costs they say, or just simple production
changes. The hood changes were based on costs people say.

The flat glovebox was probably a very early car as some didn't have
a glovebox latch. but a release lever similar to the trunk & engine
compartment.

The single turbo next to the stage at PF in the early 500 vin range
had this type of glovebox. The current latch method is a much better
choice in my opinion. Less stuff to go wrong. We don't need an
emergency cable for the glovebox as well as the engine & trunk.
