I understand, and agree.  I should have clarified that statement.  Yes, the
phone being close to your skull increases your level of exposure, but what
some people don't think about is the other aspects of the system.

The little hand held most everyone carries has a power limit of 0.6 watts.
This can vary in manufacturing, obviously.  Blaupunkt, for a short period of
time, made a hand held that had a switch on the side allowing you to
increase that to 0.8 watts for "emergency use".  Then there are the 3.0 watt
analog phones that are still in existence, which can be adjusted on the
board by a simple potentiometer.  The big one is the tower itself, but I
don't recall what power levels they transmit at.

While the inverse square rule does apply, the source is ever-changing.  This
is why I stated you are always immersed in the radiation.  You would have to
live in an RF-dead room to get away from any of this.  As an interesting
side note, it has been seen that the least amount of cellular signal is at
the base of the transmit/receive antenna.

Assuming spherical wavefronts, which is a good first approximation for a
cell phone, electromagnetic field intensity is inversely proportional to
the square of the distance from the source to the target.  Sticking a
phone on the side of skull exposes your brain to much, MUCH more intense
radiation than simply being around cell phones.

I'm not trying to argue the cancer thing one way or the other.  Just get
your physics right before trying to argue with it.
