[DMCForum] Re: LOOKING FOR 1629 AND 1631 and other stuff

The "pre-post" production cars?? :)

On both lists there was a lot (too much if you include Claude's input) of
discussion on the early cars. I have a Canadian one (17084). Not to start
any kind of argument but I have heard there were only 112 of these. The
"official" vin list shows a range of 17004 to 17168 (17707 is Marv Stein's
and is a typo). That is 168 vins listed. Under my headliner (both doors)
there is the vin 12084.

I noticed that the 12xxx series has very few vins, and the ones starting at
12171 seem to be right hand drives. Most of the 12xxx cars seem to be in
Europe. To further complicate things at PF I saw at least one 17xxx car that
was not in metric, and I was assured that it had never been converted.

It seems that the 17xxx (83's) and 12xxx (82's) vin numbers were reserved
for export to countries other then the US. I heard an interesting story
about vin 17134. Apparently this car was sent to either Timmins or North Bay
in northern Ontario for cold weather testing. After the bankruptcy the
company doing the testing kept the car because of what was owing. I got that
from the owner's father who purchased it directly from this company. I was
let to believe that the car was up there for at least year before DMC
defaulted on the payments. That would lead me to believe that the 17xxx cars
are actually '82s, the same as the 12xxx cars.

I guess Deloreans are like people - mostly all the same, except some show
their age better then others ;)

Subject: [DMCForum] LOOKING FOR 1629 AND 1631

I've got a simple request----does anyone know who the owners of 1629
1631 are and where they are located??  I've checked the VIN list,
but that was of no help.  I'm working on a little project and this
info would be a BIG help.
