Well, life does suck, Bob. And truth be told, I wouldn't have it any
other way.

How sweet would the sugar be if you never knew what a lemon tasted
like? Truth be told, it would be bland. So how much more of a good
person would you consider yourself to be, if you were never given the
opprotunity to show it?

The concept of Ying and Yang is an amazing one when you think about
it. The friction of opposing forces truly is what drives our
existance. If we didn't have to go out to work everyday, if everything
was provided for us, where would we be? Nowhere. Hell, Darwinian proof
of this can be found with cultures of the world. Look at those peopls
in the Pacific islands. You've got people who eat fruit, and only
occasionally need to hunt. Otherwise, they lead an easy, carefree,
boring lifestyle that accomplishes nothing in the end. And sometimes,
shit gets out of control with ritualistic sacrifices, and canibalism.
So we have two possible outcomes from these little isolated utopias of
either complete "Lord of the Flies" type chaos, or cultural and
developmental stagninity.

Now, compare that to us industrialized countries. "Nessesity is the
Mother of all Invention." -Not just a saying, but a practical rule of
life. We needed to tend to agriculture, so we first created tools to
work the land to sow the seeds of our crops. Next, we needed to
control the water to irrigate the crops, so we mastered irrigation
with our aqueducts, flood control devices, and later, our sprinkler
systems. Then to harvest said crops, we devised handtools, and later
combined other technologies to create behemeth machines that could
work faster, longer, and more efficient than human hands.

As the human race has developed, we have matured as a species overall,
just as we do as individuals. To explain this, let me ask you this,
Bob. Would you really want to have remained a child all your life? As
you aged, you've gained knowlege, you've had accomplishments I'm
certain. And you've got a loving wife, and a son that I know for a
fact you are extremely proud of. Wonderful, and wonderous experiences
have entered your life, as well some that have been painful, and
discomforting. And that can be said of everyone. So once again, would
you really want life to be any different? As we all grow up into
adults, and cease to be children, we all must put away childish
things, and take on adult responsabilities. But the rewards that we
gain, and the pleasures that we take part of as adults in life are far
greater than the simplistic comforts, and rules that we must endure as
children. Of course, you've always got to take the good with the bad,
so hey, there it is.

As for our dependance on forien oil, antiquated technologies, and
socio-economic slavery, it's just like we're in school again. You've
got big bullies that sometimes come to power, and want to dictate to
us, what we should do, according to what suits their demands. "Gimmie
your lunch money, or else I'll beat you up!" does sound an awful lot
like "Invest your savings into venture capital retirement schemes, or
else when you do retire, you be spending your twilight years at the
local YMCA!" We can only overcome such things, when we choose to. It's
easier to fillup at the gas pump & pay an asinine price for fuel, than
it is to rally people, and acctively defy the powers that be.

However, we must also take the time to make sure that we're doing our
homework, and those changes that we want to take place, really are a
better alternative than what we currently rely on. Hydrogen powered
cars are a bigger danger to our enviornment than fossil fuel powered
vehicles for two reasons: 1: While hydrogen gas does naturally occcur
in the enviornment, it is infact a green house gas that would be even
more destructive to our planet, than all the refrigerants that we
currently vent into the atmosphere, because people who fill up their
hydrogen cars won't give a shit when the consistantly spill the fuel
out. 2: Hydrogen gas has to be made from water. And here in the
southwestern part of the United states, water isn't exactly all that
plentiful. Infact, it is illegal in Las Vegas to build a new home,
with a front lawn, our water situation is so bad. And we can't simply
rob midwestern farmers of their water either.

So yes, life has allot of problems, and there are no simple solutions,
when you want to have complex results. But I still wouldn't have it
anyother way. After all, how do you know what your capable of, if
you're never been put to the test?

As for slavery, yes, it's wrong, and it needs to be erradicated
wherever it exists. Although it's there in place of more advanced
technologies, because there are those that choose not to make the
switch. Before you simply eradicate any problem, you've got to find
out why it's there. Be it a particular situation, or even person.

While life may not always be good to us, it is most certainly a good
thing.
