RE: [DMCForum] fan fix question

2 things,

Since the power to the fan is derived direct from the battery and not
through the cars main relay where most things work off of, the current draw
of the fans can and do drag down a significant amount of power. There is a
chance the fans could stay on if two things don't happen.
First, The otterstat is normally what activates the fans on and off if your
not using the AC. Ref. #190 on the wiring diagram. The power to the
otterstat is supplied through #5 fuse from the main relay, so if there is a
problem in the main relay not releasing when the car is turned off, or the
otterstat is sticking then there is one path to keep them energized.

2nd, the AC clutch via the mode switch is also an activator of the cooling
fans. Note the K wire running between the #200 compressor and the #25
diodes. If the clutch doesn't release when you turn off the AC or there is
an electrical path of volts that is still running thru the AC clutch,  or it
is not turned off before you turn off the car or the mode switch is
defective then again there could still be power going to the relay's in the
Fan Fix Box.

Basically, The fan Fix splitting the power for the cooling fans between 2
relay's instead of one.

I could draw the power off the main relay like others, but if that is done
then would defeat the purpose of relieving the
30 amp run current on the wiring loom that everything works off of.
Normally if they don't turn off, then another problem in the wiring loom is
keeping them activated.
Keep me posted.

This is mostly for John H, but if anyone else has any thoughts I'd
love to hear.   As I was driving around today thinking how much I'm
loving the hell out of my D I realized that the fan fix was stuck "on."
The fans didn't shut when I turned the engine off.  The last time I
had a problem, the fans wouldn't come on.  So I'm wondering, what
advice can I give Keith the Mechanic that will finally get it right?

What can I do myself?  I do love to tinker altho I have no clue what
to do.  If I remember corretly the relay is clearly marked and in the
compartment behind the pass seat, yes?

  thanks any advice...............LP
