Yes, I do study the economies of many third world countries.  It is part 
of public health information, that I review regularly.

Regarding Korea,

I would suggest you study up on Korean history.

North Korea has ALWAYS been economically disadvantage compared to the 
south for THOUSANDS of years.  READ about the war lord histories.

There has always been discourse between the north and the south because 
the south has essentially all of the natural resources.  

What this means is that if Korean had been  a united country since the 
1950s, THE SOUTH would not have done so good

BECAUSE (hopefully) it would have had to SHARE with the north for the 
FIRST TIME in Korean history.

BUT YOU KNEW THAT? Right?

As for Vietnam,  

There economic growth and income distribution AFTER having gone through 
50 years of colonial wars -First the French, then the US.  devastated 
there country, it industry and its infrastructure.  They have had 
remarkable growth given NO MARSHALL plan like Europe.
None of the money the US promised in negotiation-Hey the US lied again!
And the lack of any foreign investment for almost 20 years.  

Making comparison to the US is stupid.  You have to make comparisons 
based upon the economic and social evolution that history shows us 
occurs in every country.

Yes, they are doing just fine.  Given their history and their industrial 
development. They are still largely an agricultural economy -  LIKE THE 
US was over 100 years ago.

Compared to the US 100 years ago- YEP they are doing just fine.


Think France is so bad?  How come their infant mortality is 50% less 
than the US.  
      How come french people live longer than US citizens and have 
better overall health
      How come the average worker in France has 8 weeks vacation and the 
US worker has only 1? ( Paying taxes on that much vacation pay is okay 
with me !!)
      Think French health care is so bad?  Their ambulances are 10 years 
more advanced than anything the US has.
      And their tax rate.  It is the same as the US.  Except that rich 
people pay more.

ONE LAST THOUGHT - THINK THE HUGE DEFICIT DUE TO REGAN AND BUSH IS OKAY.  ?
Check the latest US budget figures published in the WSJ.

The interest on the federal deficit - which goes right into rich people 
pockets is essentially EQUAL to all the money the federal government 
spend on Medicare. Yes, we could double the number of people who have 
free health care IF WE DIDn't Have all the Republican debt interest.
