Bummer!  I like wiseass comments, but I understand that this isn't

maybe scratching disturbs the molecular structure somehow.  Now 
you have me thinking harder about this.   

Or maybe peeing on the door had nothing to do with it.  Anyone want 
to run a test -- scratch your D and only pee on half of it?  Urine is an 
acid, so maybe that's  a clue.....
