RE: [DMCForum] Ohm's Law

I haven't played with mine yet, but check the size of your adapter versus
your receptacle.  European cars of that era had a larger sized plug than
American cars.  I haven't checked the newer European cars.

It may be that there is just enough room for it to move so it shorts out and
pops the fuse.  There used to be a plastic sleeve you had to slide on the
end of your cigarette lighter adapter when using them with European cars.  A
quick way to check this would be to try the same plug in your PT Cruiser and
see if it is as snug.

Also, is your cellular phone power adapter OEM to your brand of phone?
There are a few aftermarket brands that are much more sensitive to voltage
spikes, and some will even get very hot or melt down before the fuse pops.
I have seen that a few times.

The next time I am at my car I will check that out.

I am so embarrased to even be asking this question as a guy who is
deeply into telecom and EE but:

How many amps is the cigar lighter -supposed- to put out?? Mine puts
out around 4 amps. It runs my little air-pump just fine, but of
course it blows the fuses in my cigar-lighter adapter devices such as
cell-phone chargers, and mini-disc player power supply. They are only
rated for 1000 mA.

Do I have a short somewhere, or does it just need attenuated?
If I do need to attenuate the circuit, how many ohm resistor should I
install? Based on 13.5 volts and 4.5 amps DC measured at the outlet,
I figured I should put in a 50 ohm resistor.

Now that I've publicly admitted I'm a dumbass feel free to advise me.
