It separates it.  Regular air does not turn to liquid under it's pressure,
and is separated out.

But...  What happens if a moron does not properly
evacuate a system, then pumps it full of R-12.  Then
at some later date, brings the car in to have it
properly evacuated (with a capture).  Does the air in
the system get in to the captured R-12 can??  or does
this capture machine somhow seperate any air/moisture
that may be in the system?
