[DMCForum] Re: Asshat alert

It's pretty obvious the car sat outside for a period... possibly awaiting sale at a dealership. It's very likely since it's a fairly late '81. It doesn't take much sun to warp the front fascia and to get cracks in the dash of a DeLorean... especially in the Texas sun. The sun visors are also floppy too and the shift boot's plastic frame is warped from heat. That's not what bothers me... I am suspicious about this car's mileage though. Everything I see points me to a higher mileage car. The seats are the biggest tip off. They're totally dried out and tight. They have no sign of their original rippled look, and clearly have wear on them from being sat in with the stitching coming apart. When a DeLorean's seats lose their rippled look it's usually from being sat in, and absorbing human body oils causes the leather to shrink (lovely I know). My 80,000 mile car has better preserved seats than this car does. The engine compartment is also a tad rusty and the car has newer tires. It looks like a clean enough car, but it's definately a buyer beware situation. -Louie
